Evolution instead of revolution
With the Selmer Signature alto sax, the renowned brand has built an evolutionary bridge between tradition and modernity. The model is both a reissue and a reworking of the long-since iconic Super Action 80 Series II, which has played a pioneering part in shaping saxophone history since the 1980s. The new version keeps the series' characteristic tonal qualities, while adding significant improvements for today's players. Along the way, the Selmer Signature alto sax benefits from a number of details that also feature among the latest innovations of the Selmer Supreme. Alongside its tonal attributes, the ergonomics have been optimised for maximum playing comfort, and the fittings brought up to date for a more homogeneous sound.
That legendary Selmer sound
It's the resonant sound of the Selmer Signature alto sax that's the real masterstroke: Intonation is perfect from low B-flat to high F-sharp, with a direct response and a centred tone across the ambitus. The E-flat alto Signature has been given a new neck bore, which improves intonation in the upper register while also making the low register respond more readily. The result is a remarkable sense of musical balance. This is supported by the new adjustable concentric three-point neck receiver with its nickel silver tightening ring, which means less of the sound is lost along the way. With sound emission and projection also brought into balance, even very nuanced playing feels natural and intuitive, and players can focus all their skill on the tone itself.
Extraordinary attention to detail
The Selmer Signature alto saxophone comes recommended for anyone looking for the legendary Selmer sound who also wants to benefit from contemporary features. It reflects the demands of ambitious or advanced amateurs and professional saxophonists alike. On top of that, it comes with an extensive set of accessories of equally high quality. Included are a Selmer Concept mouthpiece with ligature and cap, an exclusive original Signature case with backpack straps, a neck strap, and further care accessories. To suit personal taste, the Signature range is available in several finishes, including this version with a stylish black body to complement the gold-lacquered keys. Common to them all are the exclusive Art Deco-style engraving and key touches traditionally inlaid with genuine mother-of-pearl.
About Selmer
Henri Selmer Paris, founded in 1885 by Henri Selmer – a clarinettist and graduate of the Paris Conservatoire – is a legendary French manufacturer of wind instruments. Initially producing clarinet mouthpieces, the company soon expanded to full clarinets and gained global recognition for its craftsmanship and quality. Selmer became particularly renowned for its saxophones, which have been favoured by countless jazz musicians since the 1920s. Beyond saxophones and clarinets, Selmer also crafts trumpets, trombones, and horns, continually refining its instruments through collaborations with leading musicians and the use of premium materials.
Ergonomics and mechanism in focus
Thanks to its extensively reworked ergonomics, the Selmer Signature alto sax is exceptionally easy to handle. The left-hand toggle and the metal thumb rests for left and right hand all contribute to a comfortable feel under the fingers. For maximum precision and longevity, the octave mechanism runs on Teflon bearings, and the screw-on bell-to-body brace follows the same focus on durability. All this means that there's nothing to stand in the way of saxophonists taking the next step with this instrument: The Selmer Signature alto sax will quickly become an extension of its owner's unique musical expressivity, carrying every emotional facet that they put into its stunning sound.
