Great case - but Reverends don't fit!
RS Catbush 10.12.2021
Let's get the review out of the way: it's a great case, like all SKBs. Light, ergonomic, solid latches, scratchproof construction.

It's all great, and I wholeheartedly recommend this case.

BUT...

Contrary to what you may have read elsewhere, Reverend guitars of a certain shape - Buckshot, Charger, Crosscut, Reeves Gabrels Signature, Double Agent OG etc - absolutely DO NOT fit in these cases without serious mutilation of the case innards.

So if you've got a Reverend, just triple-check that this case will accommodate your guitar, or you may have to perform what my girlfriend described as "like a horrific muppet autopsy".

I've learned this the optimistic/stupid/costly way so you don't have to. You're welcome!

Great case, though.

AJ
Fantastic Hardcase
Amir John Haddad - El Amir 07.01.2021
When I received the case I was in love on the spot. It looks great, inside and outside. Slim line and very strong. My Kramer guitars fit perfectly and don't move inside. enough space for storage and items don't fall out of the compartment due to the structure inside. Once the case is closed everything stays where it has to stay. Compared to other cases I have this one is definitely a good one and I like the way it balances when holding it in your hands. Great locks, easy to open/close... Seems like the perfect fit for my coming gigs and tours once we hit the roads again... For now it makes my storage capacity easy both cases are formed in a way that they easily fit on top of each other...(don't get me wrong here...I can read your mind...). Price is superb in my opinion and you get a solid, strong and great looking hard case.

A steal!
Robert Q. 16.04.2014
What a great case for the price! Yes, you can buy more rugged flight cases, the metal-reinforced ones, but for most people these are just too heavy to lug around, and, unless you have heavy handed roadies or constantly flying they're just a pain. Gigbags are ok, but offer no protection at all, and some of the cheaper "plastic" ones just seem to have the material become brittle after a few years and crack, pieces break off and the whole thing is only to be thrown away!
The SKB Route 66, however, has survived several years now without any breakup, giving excellent support to the instrument inside it.
It also has a small slim profile, so it doesn't take up loads of room when transporting it, has an ATA lock (required if you don't want Customs to "open" your locked case with a snips), and, if you have more than one of these cases, you can stack them one on top of the other and they lock onto each other via the special raised corners (sunken on the other side) that fit into each other.
Decent SKB quality too. What's not to like?

Built like a tank!
Georges L 13.06.2019
This is by far the best "bank for buck" hardcase ever, meaning it is not the best case, but for this much money this is the best case you will ever get. Very light and "stealthy looking", definitely gigable on the road (buses, vans, trains etc.) have not tried it on enough flights yet, just a couple and maybe I've been lucky with the baggage handlers, but so far, this purchase has been a blessing. I feel very safe putting my Tele in this case, and I'm getting another one for my Strat as well.

Absolutely recommended.

A quick shout out to the Thomann Team, as usual an impeccable service from them.

Lightweight and Sturdy!
Anonymous 05.06.2015
Got this case for my 2nd Left-handed Fender Stratocaster (this one is a '77, the other is a '78). I really wanted a shaped Fender Red label case from the 80's, but they're expensive and hard to get used as they're so popular. So I got this case instead, and while it's not shaped, it's still a great case. The ABS has raised 'bumpers' all over which help protect the case. The latches are easy to open, but close securely (and are airport-friendly if you travel). The guitar fits fine and rides quite comfy, which you don't often find with left-handed guitars. Plus, the case is very lightweight, and has a lovely large rubber handle, so it's almost a joy to carry it. Overall I quite recommend this case to anyone, esp. any fellow left-handers.

A great value for money
Jackfisher 15.11.2018
The case arrived intact in a black fabric bat, tightly packed inside the box, so it survived shipping quite well, thanks to the people of the store that packed everything just right, so there were no scratches or any other type of damage from shipping.
The case is very solid, feels nice on the inside with compartments on both sides of the guitar neck for you to put some stuff like picks, clip tuners, straps, spare batteries and anything else you might want to take with you, just make sure it's not too tall.
The case has a lock on the center and comes with two keys.
The padding on the inside is very nice and soft while the exterior of the case is actually very thick and tough, so I can see myself traveling with this case, as it looks like it can take a beating.
It's very clean looking as well.
I bought the case for a Solar 2.6 that unfortunately went on a split delivery, so I got the case before the guitar, but I tested how it fits with an Ibanez RG 570, and it fits really snug since it is an ST style case.
All in all I'm very happy with this purchase, this is a great value for money, you can't go wrong with the SKB Route 66.

Can't do better than this
Mombasaflash 16.05.2022
Not my first SKB guitar case, and the best so far. They have taken their fairly standard case and added the corner protectors and replaced the standard chrome latches with chunky ones that include the TSA rated locks.

Inside the guitar is held firmly in place and there is plenty of space for strap, radio Tx, strings, tools, capo and all that sort of thing in two large compartments. No lids on these compartments, so any slim or small metal objects might be better placed in a bag or flat box so that they do not find their way out to scratch your darling - unless you are one of those who likes beaten up and abused darlings in the belief that a trashed guitar invokes more credibility and makes you a better player.

Best case for price.
Hans Jurgen 23.03.2023
The SKB Route 66 guitar case is a well-regarded option for guitar players who need a reliable and protective case for their instrument.

One of the standout features of this case is its rugged construction, which includes a durable exterior made of molded ABS plastic, as well as TSA-approved locking latches that help keep your guitar secure during travel. The case also features a plush-lined interior, which helps protect your guitar from scratches and other damage.

In terms of size, the SKB Route 66 is designed to fit most standard electric guitars, as well as some smaller acoustic guitars. The case's interior dimensions are approximately 40" x 14.5" x 5", which should accommodate most guitars comfortably. I use it for Jackson Adrian Smith Dinky MN.

Overall, if you purchased the SKB Route 66 guitar case you will be highly satisfied with its quality, durability, and protective features. Some users have noted that the case is a bit heavier than some other options on the market, but most agree that the extra weight is worth it for the added protection and peace of mind it provides.

I have had this case for over a year and used it on a weekly basis and I am giving it 5/5 for durability.

Great Case, but beware.
Graham_M 13.02.2022
There is nothing wrong with this case. In fact I was very pleased with it. However if you travel a lot as I do for my "day job". Buy a more robust SBK case. I had mine trashed by airline baggage handlers on two different trips. My guitar was still well protected, but the outer "Skin "of the case seems a little thin at the feet and corners where most of the impact will be. Resulting in the case splitting and shattering at the corners. For normal use and just throwing in the back of your car to go to a gig it's more than adequate. I had great after sales service from Both Thomann ( who offered lots of help and advice after my travel insurance refused to pay up and SBK themselves ( who replaced my case free of charge)

Better than expected

So, it's my first time with SKB product, and honestly, blown away by quality, handling, sturdiness and lightweight-ness. It's solid as a rock, keeps your guitar in place, no rattling, I feel safe with my guitar in it.
