A good pedal but not what it is compared to.
Darth Jim Jam 05.09.2022
This pedal is "advertised" as a RAT copy/clone. I bought one so that I could have that RAT sound with the addition of the options on the switch. However, after placing it on my board and comparing against my own RAT with a pedal switcher, it was clear that they are not the same. Whilst we are in the same ballpark, the EQ is not the same and it didn't have the same "chewy crunchiness" that the RAT had.
However, if you are not specifically looking for a RAT clone/replacement, then this may work for you. It starts with a crunchy overdrive and goes up to silicon fuzz. The modes are good and it gives you a good boost capability that the original RAT does not have.

Sounds like a Rat
Kostas_ 04.09.2022
I compared it A-B to my Rat and in the Classic mode it is nearly identical. The Magus retains more bass overall compared to the Rat, not sure if that's a good or bad thing, I guess it will show in a band context. The original Rat sounds a bit more honky overall, but that could be variance from Rat to Rat even, due to component variance.

All the modes sound good. The gain knob has a much more even taper than the original Rat that goes from 0 to 7 in the first few degrees of rotation and then stays between 8-10 for the whole remaining rotation, so that's an improvement over the original. The switch doesn't have a tactile click when turning on/off. It is smaller that you would imagine from the photo, great for pedalboard real estate, plus all jacks are on the upper side.

One big downside is that the switch engages not when you press it but when you release it. This can make it very hard to activate the pedal exactly when needed in a song. But if it is always on it is not a problem.

Good distortion pedal
Zool. 02.04.2023
The Magus claims to be a good alternative for The Rat pedal, but it is not. But it is a very useable distortion pedal in his own right.

Not quite like RAT, but OK
Aleksej79ns 24.07.2023
Nice distortion pedal, with 3 interesting modes, easy to use, but it doesn't sound quite like the original RAT. Can't replace it.
