M
Insufficient for serious work.
Mofosir 11.09.2026
While this file is nicely made, feels sturdy, and the machining seems to be quite good, it only gets you so far. Perhaps if you haven't tried pricier, higher grade tools or generally don't have a point of reference to what a quality file feels like when it's shaving off metal, this will seem good enough, but it really isn't. First off, it leaves way too many scuff marks on the frets which prolongs the job by quite a lot, having to undo what the file does. Secondly, it just isn't sharp enough, you need to add quite a lot of weight behind it for it to even begin to shave off the frets. After doing an entire neck with this, it's just not sustainable for long-term work. And another thing - the handle doesn't hold the file, not on my copy at least. Mine slipped out midway through the first neck, had to glue it in as it was just not a tight fit. Now, I understand that at this price point, this is in a league of it's own, and that you can't expect it to behave as tools that cost thrice as much. I do have other tools that I use (Hosco mainly), bought this just to try, on a whim. The difference between something like the Hosco fret file and this is not even comparable, it's like cutting butter versus shaving wood with a butter knife. If you do frets once in a blue moon, sure, it'll do the job. But if you're working with guitars all the time, skip past and get something more substantial, as this will be a chore to work with.

Useless gimmick

I?ve heard beforehand that these files were amateur-ish, but I wanted to try for myself - and it?s true. You?re basically blind-filing your frets without precision.
Get a traditional triangular, high quality fretfile and you?ll be much happier.

Wears out after 4 uses on basses
Bass YR 03.10.2022
Not the least durable, the teeth bent and stopped 'biting' frets after less than a handful of basses. Worked well at first, then became kind of useless.

P
FOR JUMBO FRETS ONLY
Paul592 04.06.2022
So I've attempted to use this on a few of my guitars, but always end up going back to a cheap mini flat file because this thing is apparently indented for XL Jumbo frets or something. It doesn't even take anything off half the time and I'm afraid it will scratch up the fretboard pressing it down hard. Not worth it if you don't have Jumbo frets.
