All the collection is very well built, perfect if you like sticks that don't bend while you playing (ratan will be better if you prefer them to bend with thhe movement)

Marimba-Mallets von Thomann

Ich wollte mir für ein großes Jahreskonzert einen Satz Marimba-Mallets bestellen, ohne dafür ein Vermögen ausgeben zu wollen (da gibt es ja diverse Marken, deren Namen ich hier sicher nicht zu nennen brauche...). Da kam mir die "Hausmarke" von Thomann gerade recht; 4 Paar Mallets für nicht mal 60¤.

Zuerst: Die Qualität gefällt mir. Gutes Holz, ordentlich gewickeltes Garn, die Mallets liegen allesamt (habe direkt alle 4 Paar bestellt) gut in der Hand, sind ausgewogen und paarweise gleich schwer -- bis hierhin ohne Makel.

In Ermangelung einer eigenen Marimba musste ich bis zur Generalprobe warten, um den Klang zu testen. Fazit: die mittleren beiden Paare (grün und rot) sind vom Klang in Ordnung, werden dem Begriff "medium" / "mittelhart" bzw. "-weich" gerecht. Die sehr weichen (blau) könnten aber noch weicher sein und ein bisschen "mehr" Klang aus den Klangplatten rausholen, gerade im untersten Viertel des Instruments.
Die harten (gelb) Mallets sind leider zu weich, produzieren zu wenig "Attack", gerade im oberen Drittel. Hier täten ein härterer Kern und härteres / härter gewickeltes Garn wahre Wunder (hatte den direkten Vergleich mit den vom Marimba-Hersteller (ein großer, holländischer ;-) ) mitgelieferten Mallets, die hier in Sachen Projektion und "Härte" mehr überzeugt haben).

Für den durchschnittlichen Vereins-Schlagwerker ist der Satz m.M.n. aber durchaus eine Anschaffung wert. Für "oben" und "unten" sollte man aber an etwas härtere bzw. weichere von Markenherstellern denken.

Not (very) hard

These mallets are of good quality for the price, if you are okay with shorter shafts, but there are some things to be noted. First off: these mallets are simply not very hard. One will really have trouble getting a decent sound out of higher octaves with these mallets. I have tried various Thomann mallets of the MM20 series, and the soft mallets don't really differ in a significant way from the harder ones. This is not the case with their MM10 series, which offers way more variation. Another notable thing about these mallets is that they seem to have a unintentional multi-timbral thing going on. The yarn wrapping is kind of soft, but the inside is a bit harder, which means the sound gets way more bright when you hit the bars harder.

Tolle Einsteiger Mallets

Da ich keine Percussion-Profi bin und daher nur selten Mallets brauche, habe ich mir diese günstigen Einsteiger-Mallets besorgt. Sie liegen für mich angenehm in der Hand und müssen in meinem Studio einiges mitmachen, vom Spielen auf Tom Toms oder Becken bis hin zum Innenleben des Flügels. Das machen sie alles klaglos mit. Bei dem Preis von mir eine klare Empfehlung.
