A good Choice on The Budget
Overall, I'm pretty happy with this desk. For the price, you get a good-looking workstation with a lovely laminated finish and loads of space for a home studio setup. Whether you're running MIDI controllers, large screens, studio monitors or a small mastering setup, there's plenty of room to work with.
Build quality – 3/5
This is where I have a few reservations. The desk looks really sturdy, but the MDF construction is quite fragile. You need to be careful when putting it together, as overtightening the screws can cause the material to crumble, leaving the screws with very little grip. Unfortunately, I managed to damage a few parts during assembly. I'll take some of the blame myself, but the material is definitely softer than I'd like, and I think the overall build quality could be improved.
Features – 4/5
There's not a huge amount to say here, but the desk gives you plenty of space, and the additional rack section and raised top shelf could be useful depending on your setup.
Personally, I had to leave the top shelf off. With my screens and studio monitors, it simply sits too high. Even with my chair at its highest setting, I'd have to look upwards at my screens, which isn't comfortable for long sessions. That's not necessarily a problem with the desk itself, as it will depend on your equipment, but it's something worth considering before buying or before committing to assembly.
I also don't use the built-in rack space, as I have all my outboard gear mounted in a separate rack. Instead, I use that space for my MIDI controllers and other bits of equipment. There's a surprising amount of room, which is a big plus.
Assembly
The instructions are decent, and all the parts are clearly labelled. I'd say it's probably a two-person job, but I managed to assemble the whole thing myself without too much trouble. It just took a little longer. It's fairly straightforward, provided you take your time and don't go mad tightening the screws!
Overall – 4/5
For the money, I think this is a pretty decent desk. It looks good, has a nice finish and gives you loads of space for your gear. The biggest downside is the quality of the MDF, which feels a little too fragile during assembly.
Realistically, It's a good option for a home studio, provided you're careful when putting it together and make sure the layout suits your equipment.
