Drop tuning perfection

Having played guitar for 6 years with DR DDT 10/60 guitar strings, I figured that DR bass strings were a natural choice when I started playing bass guitar. I initially started out with the heaviest 4-string set that DR sell, but this unfortunately led to the 1st and 2nd strings breaking in standard tuning, which is to be expected to be honest (yes, I do like SERIOUSLY heavy strings, even when not drop tuned). Being new to bass, and wanting to learn and practice songs in standard tuning as well as drop B and occasionally C, these strings are ideal.

In standard tuning they required a fair amount of setup initially, with adjustment to the nut width, tightening of the truss rod and adjustment of the action, followed by the usual intonation tweaking. Perhaps not for the faint hearted, but the time is well worth it in my eyes!

The strings sound exactly as I would expect, ideal for metal of all genres, and feel flawless to play. The 4th string retains perfect tension in drop D, and they work well in drop C, although my personal preference would be the extra heavy set for drop C downwards. They're tight enough to play fast and hard with a pick, but not so tight that finger picking becomes arduous, and fretting isn't excessively difficult either.

Overall, worth the money. They certainly feel and sound much more playable in drop tunings than the couple of other brands I tried (with perhaps less of a difference to be found that with guitar strings), and it's fair to say I'm sold on these strings as my go-to bass string, especially given my love of DR DDT guitar strings.

I play metal music in mainly C drop and D tunings. They keep tuning very well right out of the box as DR advertises them.

Stainless steel provides bright sound for longer period of time than nickel-plated steel, I think. Also I like the grip you get with stainless.

Only downside to think of is fairly high price, otherwise they're pure gold.

I've given these strings two chances. Once on my p-bass and once on my stingray. Both times I was a bit disappointed with their sound. They made my basses sound a bit lifeless, compared to other brands. Of course this is subjective, as you may sometimes want less zing.

Pros:
- they hold the tuning great and have nice tension. I used them for drop-C tuning

Cons:
- not a fan of their sound
- I tried two packs, in one of them the E string felt a bit dead

Well designed for drop tunning

I was searching for a long time a set of strings for my P bass. The tunning I use is standard D♭ and the tension is just perfect with this set on. they are rich in sound, have long lasting brightness, nice sustain and they feel really good when played!
