great for double double bass fingerboard
Moris C. 04.09.2013
This little pickup I bought for my double bass. I needed one passive pickup for the clicks ( slap) sounds when playing rockabilly. I have mounted it on the backside of the fingerboard and it picks up the slap clicks just great.

The important thing here is not to get the sound too bassy because the slappin sounds are not in the same frequency range as the ordinary bass tones. This pickup manages to catch the right acoustic color of the fingerboard slap sounds.
It has enough of trebles and some of the nice smooth middle tones you want to have.
The construction is very simple and it works just great. Just a nice jack contact and you connect it straight to the mixing console.
In many situations the bass player don't want to have those clicks through the amp because the bass speakers wont produce the right sound. But if you line out it to the PA it gives you another dimension. The one you were missing when only using amp and speaker.
I have no negative experience with it whatsoever. It is little, practical, simple, and works like a dream.
It feels kind of plastic but if it was made of metal it might scratch your instrument.
The color is perfect and it blends easy with all kind of colors, but above all it blends perfectly to my ebony fingerboard.

A secret weapon

We started to play country music, so I bought a banjo, and I needed a solution to modify it to an electric type. I got info from internet how to do it, and I found this option for quite cheap, so I bought it.
It was very easy to fit in my banjo. Just had to remove the screws holding the back plate. The set contains a kind of glue which sticks the pickup to the skin of the banjo from the back, and it is easy to remove if neccessayr, but keeps the pickup stable. The double taped jack fixer holds the jack stable. The sound is much-much better than expected. Highly recommended!!!

A
Great pickup for saz (baglama)
Anonymous 13.03.2015
This is a very good pickup! I am using it on my saz (baglama), which is a Turkish string instrument and the sound quality was much better than I expected it to be. Also, it was very easy to put it on the instrument, I had to move it around to see where it would sound best and when that was done, it sounded perfect!

However, I noticed that if I play a string and then leave it, the sound will not fade out smoothly, it will sound like something is lagging for a short while and then, it will be completely quiet.

Also, after a while, it felt like the pickup loosened up a little bit, which changed the sound that I got, but after pressing it towards the instrument again, it was fine. Maybe I just didn't press it hard enough.

To summarize this, it is great pickup for a great price!

Mine is (unusually) being used to pick up resonance from my Electric mandola. It does this without noise and is hard-wired into the electrics' bay on the back of the instrument.

I used that small Pick-up for my upright Bass as main Pick-up together with Harley Benton BDI-2000 and the t.bone SC 300 microphone.

A Fat, warm, natural tone for slappin', arco or pizzicato playing for less than 100,-?.
Cheap and perfect!

P
Sounds like (is!) Shadow
PeeVee 09.11.2017
I use this pickup as a slap pickup under the fingerboard of my upright bass. For that, it's excellent! I haven't tried it on other instruments. It is *very* similar to the Shadow pickup that's more expensive. For this price, you can't go wrong. I bet it will do fine on several acoustic intruments.

I have finished playing my now amplified Banjitar, after setting it up with this pick up.

After installing the pick-up (without a problem), I connected my Harley Benton HBJ-26 (Banjitar or 6 string banjo) to my Beheringer AT108 acoustic amp, and ............ my neighbours thought they were in "hill-billy country" lol. It sounded fantastic, it is very crisp, warm & clean.

The sound is quite remarkable considering the price.

I recommend this product with 2 thumbs up !!

Harley Benton, I wonder, how do you do it ??? such good products at very affordable prices ! - Its beyond me.

I can't believe the sound quality achieved @ this price range. I've now brought several of these for different instruments, and can always achieve good results with careful placement.
