Having skirted around the LowBoy brand for a while, where high cost always seemed to be an issue (and don't get me wrong, these are bespoke beaters from a small independent company so I expect bespoke prices), I eventually decided to give this standard lightweight version a try.
It came packaged in a branded 'jiffy style' bag which was a nice touch and on inspection, was nicely finished, with a simple colourway.
Installing it in my Yamaha FP8500B belt drive pedal, I took it on a gig that very weekend.
It gave a nicely balanced and slightly weightier feel under the foot, than the original Yamaha felt beater, producing a very pleasing and much more focussed attack (due to the head shape).
On the particular gig I was using a Remo Bravo 20x16" kick with an Aquarian Super Kick 1 on the batter and the original single ply Ambassador weight display head (PDP pillow inside lightly touching both heads).
This is a fairly punchy drum anyway but the beater gave me a good half way house of attack with some roundness and bloom (compared to more smaller-headed beaters).
The bass player even commented on how nice the drum sounded (one of the bands I play with are very 'gear-aware' which is nice.
Very happy with the purchase and I'm looking to get another for the other kick pedal I use.
