KS
A great cajon pedal for the price
Kevin S 20.12.2020
I wanted to use my cajon as both seat and bass drum while I play the acoustic guitar.

PROS:
The pedal is great and comes with a handy tool to adjust anything on it, and can be set up for playing with either the right or left foot.

The sound is really nice and easily controllable by rotating the rubber head, which can be set to hit the cajon flat against the surface or with the edge.

CONS:
However I had to change the setup of the pedal a bit before feeling comfortable with it, the main issue for me was that the head had to travelled to much for my taste before hitting the cajon.

And while the solid angled shaft is convenient, it does limit the position of the pedal compared to the cajon, because the shaft can only turn for a given range of angles ... With my long legs I couldn't find a very comfortable position by sitting aligned with the cajon, I have to turn myself a bit which isn't a big deal since I'm not playing the cajon with my hands anyway.

To sum up:
I'm more than pleased with the pedal now that I found how to use it comfortably, and only wish that the initial setup wasn't the way it was because it forced my to hit the pedal harder than necessary on my first trials.

it always pays to think outside the box
Drumaddict 21.06.2023
intellectually speaking, I'm not Neil Peart or Mike Mangini and my favourite drummer is obviously 'Animal' from the Muppets but I can usually put together most bits of drum hardware without too much difficulty. There are 5 parts to this cajon pedal; all carefully packaged in one box. I had a quick scan over the (colour photographed, 3 step) instructions and started to put the pedal together with good initial results. I was able to construct it without too much difficulty but I ran into 2 issues - I couldn't get the beater to move and then when I figured that bit out, it was not comfortable to play. The solution to both was in the instructions but it wasn't written ; it was in the pictures.
If you have the pedal end of the hinged cardan shaft at too extreme an angle it can't rotate and therefore the beater won't move. Maybe this should be mentioned in the instructions? With this problem resolved the playing position became even more uncomfortable until I went back to the pictures again. I am used to playing cajon with my hands or with brushes of various sorts and I sit square & straight with the resonant head to the front and the sound hole at the back. When you add a pedal to the mix you need to think outside the box! The picture in the instructions shows the cajon rotated slightly. You are sitting astride the corner - one leg to the front and one leg to the side. Maybe this also should be specified in writing in the instructions?
This cajon pedal is incredibly good value and feels solid and well constructed. It's quality is well above its price tag. Well done Thomann. It has a smooth action and the beater creates a decent sound (although it might produce a deeper tone if the beater rod was shorter and therefore able to hit lower down on the head?)
I would have no hesitation in recommending it but please read the instructions, look at the pictures carefully and think outside of the box!

I bought this item to use on my cajon for acoustic sets with my band. I've used it for quite a while now and it is a very good pedal. I would recommend it to anyone, especially if you play heel up as it is very robust and can take hard beating. The only issue is that I have to turn the cajon to acommodate everything as the pedal positioning is a bit limited, but can be easily fixed by moving the cajon
