D
it always pays to think outside the box
Drumaddict 21.06.2023
intellectually speaking, I'm not Neil Peart or Mike Mangini and my favourite drummer is obviously 'Animal' from the Muppets but I can usually put together most bits of drum hardware without too much difficulty. There are 5 parts to this cajon pedal; all carefully packaged in one box. I had a quick scan over the (colour photographed, 3 step) instructions and started to put the pedal together with good initial results. I was able to construct it without too much difficulty but I ran into 2 issues - I couldn't get the beater to move and then when I figured that bit out, it was not comfortable to play. The solution to both was in the instructions but it wasn't written ; it was in the pictures.
If you have the pedal end of the hinged cardan shaft at too extreme an angle it can't rotate and therefore the beater won't move. Maybe this should be mentioned in the instructions? With this problem resolved the playing position became even more uncomfortable until I went back to the pictures again. I am used to playing cajon with my hands or with brushes of various sorts and I sit square & straight with the resonant head to the front and the sound hole at the back. When you add a pedal to the mix you need to think outside the box! The picture in the instructions shows the cajon rotated slightly. You are sitting astride the corner - one leg to the front and one leg to the side. Maybe this also should be specified in writing in the instructions?
This cajon pedal is incredibly good value and feels solid and well constructed. It's quality is well above its price tag. Well done Thomann. It has a smooth action and the beater creates a decent sound (although it might produce a deeper tone if the beater rod was shorter and therefore able to hit lower down on the head?)
I would have no hesitation in recommending it but please read the instructions, look at the pictures carefully and think outside of the box!

Adaptable and Functional
FOUNDRY 30.09.2021
I have used this as part of a mini kit where my cajon acts primarily as a bass drum. The pedal is totally adaptable (including taking it apart and using as a front facing pedal). With some adjustment the pedal is very responsive although the soft beater doesn't have as much rebound as a standard head. If anything this serves to build technique as you really need to play with definite strokes, swapping back to a regular bass pedal will make it seem super responsive.

The only disadvantage can be solved by a trick
Dieter Bohlen 23.11.2018
I am using this pedal in an acustic rock band, thus I need more power and direct feeling than most cable driven cajon pedals offer, especially for quick double strokes. This delivers!
Many users say that the placement angle is a huge drawback, which I solved by turning the cajon by approx. 22 degrees. The angle of the pedal can be adjusted much easier this way.

TL;DR: Great pedal, good price, with smart adjustment no disadvantages.

Great piece of kit
Sordo 13.04.2021
Took a little bit of messing around to get it setup, having never owned something like this before but it was easy enough once I figured it out.
Then you can play around with multiple adjustments to get it just right. Tried a few different angles to get the pedal in the most comfortable position and now it is just perfect. Nice responsive feel and sound is great.
I reckon I will be replacing the Cajon long before I ever need to replace the pedal.

I
Cajon pedal
Ichi 05.05.2020
The pedal is quick and easy to setup and with a better feel than
the wire connected ones. The feel and action of the CP-777 is the same as for a regular BD pedal.
Pros.
-feel
-direct action
-easy setup
-well built
Cons.
-a bit bulky to transport, but that's the same for all
axle driven cajon pedals

Well worth its money
