An electric drumkit that looks like an acoustic
The MPS-1500 is the flagship model in Millenium's electronic drum range, with an innovative concept that sets it apart from much of the competition. It's a hybrid kit, so it combines real wood shells with the mesh heads typical of an e-drumkit – this gives it the authentic appearance of an acoustic drum kit, which until recently was largely the territory of significantly more expensive electronic sets. Another very distinctive element of the Millenium MPS-1500 Hybrid-X is its drum module, which is not just a drum computer, but also doubles as a multi-percussion pad with its own integrated playing surfaces. Alongside the set's five drums and four cymbals, the module provides nine additional pads that can be used for triggering more melodic sounds, as well as a host of other applications. Creative drummers can also connect up to five external pads to the module, meaning the system can ultimately address a total of 23 drum channels. For even more modular flexibility, the MPS-1500 module can also be used independently as a standalone instrument.

A great range of sounds
The drum module on the MPS-1500 is operated via its clear and intuitive 4.3" LCD screen. Four rotary controls provide immediate access to the volume, pitch, FX level and FX timing of the individual channels, making on-the-fly adjustments quick and straightforward. The drum and cymbal pads themselves connect to the module via a 25-pin D-Sub connector, simplifying the entire wiring process considerably. Alongside 3,622 sounds and 160 drum kits, half of which can be freely configured as user kits, the module also allows users to import up to 600 of their own audio samples, with a total capacity of 500MB. Mesh heads across all drums provide a comfortable playing experience with an authentic feel, while the generously sized hi-hat and cymbal pads boast rubber playing surfaces that register strikes across their full area. And with the system's integrated Bluetooth connectivity, drummers can also play along to music streamed from a smartphone.

Ready for the stage
The centrepiece of the Millenium MPS-1500 Hybrid-X is its 22"x16" bass drum, ably supported by 10"x6" and 12"x6" rack toms, a 14"x14" floor tom, and a 13"x5.5" snare drum. The kit is completed by a 13" hi-hat, two 15" dual-zone crash cymbals, and an 18" triple-zone ride cymbal, as well as all the necessary hardware. What this comprehensive setup means in practice is that the MPS-1500 is fully stage-ready: In fact, its strengths make it almost best-suited to be played live. For example, it's easy to create loops from user samples and assemble complete setlists, while all the key parameters can be adjusted in real time. Flexible routing options, eight direct outputs, and extensive sound-editing capabilities provide an impressive degree of flexibility on stage.

With more than 3,600 onboard sounds drawn from a wide range of genres and musical traditions, it offers exceptional flexibility in terms of sounds. Beyond that, the kit includes numerous features that make it an effective command centre for modern performance setups. The module's multi-percussion pad design means it can also function as a completely self-contained compact electronic drum machine when required; equally, it can serve to expand a drummer's existing acoustic kit.
