A sensational double woofer

The TP218/1600 MKIII, a passive subwoofer from the box pro, is equipped with two woofers, and not small ones either. For a model in this price range to have two woofers as standard will be music to the ears of all its listeners – and it also explains the difference in price between the MKIII shown here and the comparable the box pro Achat 118 Bass. The 18" woofers of the MKIII also come in much larger than the 12" ones fitted in Thomann's the box pro Achat 212H-SUB. And when the TP218/1600 MKIII's extraordinary power handling capacity is also factored in, the value for money on offer here should be crystal clear. This low-end specialist can be easily combined with a whole host of full-range systems, fitted as it is with all the standard connections.

Stable flexibility, flexible stability

The box pro TP218/1600 MkIII can be wired up with either twin-core or four-core speaker cables, which carry the signal for the tops on either the first or second pair of wires. In either case, a suitable amp is required to operate the subwoofer. Before connecting, the user simply needs to turn the cover of the parallel-wired socket pairs to reveal the desired operating mode. The speaker twist sockets are one of the few moving parts in an immensely robust enclosure, which also has a sturdy steel grille mounted on the front. Rubber feet below, and the matching recesses above, are provided for stacking, and other mounting options can be quickly realised with the appropriate accessories, all of which are sold separately. Inside, the 18" speakers of this model, which has an impedance of 4 ohms, offer a power handling capacity of 1600W (AES) in a frequency range of 34 to 150Hz.

For pros who go low

The box pro TP218/1600 MKIII subwoofer generates a professional-level bass response with its two large woofers, and thanks to its flexible connections, the MKIII is a good way of expanding an existing sound system. Equally, its flexibility will increase its viability for the rental segment. Event organisers who only need sub-bass occasionally, or bands who tour with their own PA, can easily stack multiple cabinets thanks to the feet and recesses. Optional accessories are in turn also widely available for club owners who want to install their speakers permanently.

About the box pro

For over 20 years, products from the box pro have enriched Thomann’s comprehensive range. If you are looking for small robust speakers, drum monitor systems, active bass speakers, column systems, active full-range speakers, line arrays, or limiters at a reasonable price, you can be sure that the box pro has you covered. These products are made exclusively by renowned companies who also manufacture products for other well-known brands – so if you are looking for brand quality at a budget-friendly price, you are certainly in good hands with around 200 articles from the box pro.

Expandable variety

With the appropriate adapter bolts, which are available separately, flanges can be screwed into the threads provided on the box pro TP218/1600 MkIII speaker cabinet. Alternatively, there is a set of wheels with both braked and unbraked castors for easy mobility on tour, or when covering long distances in sprawling convention centres. To protect the MKIII against dust and moisture in rarely used multifunctional rooms, or to keep off the everyday wind and weather of touring, a cover is advisable: The Thomann Cover Pro TP218/1600 MKII, made of water-repellent nylon, was tailor-made for this very purpose.

For this price??
Karl975 29.10.2013
I recently bought 4 of these for our on stage side fills and drum fills and was genuinely amazed at the sound and build quality of them. I ran an A B test against other twin 18" subs that have respected brand names and these stood the test and seemed like the logical purchase. I will admit that the are no match for something like the coda SCP's, but if you don't have several thousand to spend per sub or the funds for the dsp amplifiers that go with something like that then you really and truly can't go wrong with these. For the price I was expecting a flimsily built box but these are sturdy as anything that you would pay top price for. Highly recommended!!

E
Easy to Handle and Great for Budget Setups
Edvard.S 18.11.2025
The The Box Pro TP218/1600 MkIII is very easy to handle. It has plenty of handles, so it can be carried around easily, and it also has screws on the back for wheels, making transport simple. The speakers have a good SPL and can reach very low frequencies. While they’re not the absolute best in SPL, they are more than good enough and excellent for budget setups and smaller rigs.

When choosing speakers, I always check what amplifiers others use, and here I’m using the t.amp TSA 4-700, which delivers 1800W @ 4Ω. This gives the speakers enough power with a bit of headroom.

Some downsides: the paint wears off easily, and they can distort a little when pushed hard. However, with proper gain and limiter settings, this isn’t a problem. Overall, very satisfied for the price and practical for small to medium setups.

A
BIG SUBS
Adrian1215 17.01.2014
I also have the mkII subs, which I love more, I think that the MK III are less powerfull then the MKII, the MKIII have punchy bass, but not so deep they throw sound much further then the MKII, a big improvement is the weight and the accesories, more rigging points and a really good improvement is the front grill. So they are for large events clubs or concerts outdoor where high spl is needed.

SP
Great build, ok sound
SFX Production Services 22.02.2018
A little muddy when driven hard but otherwise pretty good sound. Heavy build quality and will withstand lots of use. Many handles make them easy to move around. I would however strongly suggest you add wheels due to the weight.
