Great sound in one take
The Zoom M2 MicTrak is a compact field recorder designed to deliver impressive recording quality with minimal effort, combining portability with a surprisingly versatile feature set. Its innovative X/Y microphone capsule captures stereo audio with clarity, while support for up to 32-bit float recording helps preserve detail even in demanding recording situations. A specially finished housing reduces unwanted handling noise during operation, and the built-in LCD screen provides clear visual feedback with live waveforms while recording. For interviews and spoken content, the recorder can be switched to mono mode to focus more directly on the speaker, making it suitable for a wide range of content creation tasks. Powered by two AA batteries, for up to 11 hours of operation, the recorder is immensely practical for mobile use and offers a simple way to achieve clean, studio-quality recordings almost anywhere.
32-bit float for finest quality
With 32-bit float recording on the Zoom M2 MicTrak, highly detailed captures can be made while effectively eliminating issues caused by clipping; overall gain can be adjusted afterwards, removing the need for precise level setting before recording. The interface has been kept intentionally minimalistic, with a single control on the far left for switching between stereo and mono modes, supporting both ambient and focused voice recording. In the central section, two buttons control headphone volume, while the headphone jack is positioned on the left side for direct monitoring during use. A dedicated low cut function adds a low-cut filter to reduce unwanted low-frequency noise such as footfall, improving recording clarity in mobile environments. Below this, the transport section provides straightforward control over recording and playback, ensuring efficient and accessible operation in the field.
A true all-rounder
The Zoom M2 MicTrak is designed as a versatile all-round field recorder, suitable for a wide range of recording situations, from capturing instrumental performances to recording interviews with clarity and precision. Its stereo mode is particularly well suited for podcast interviews, while the microphone-style body allows secure mounting on standard microphone stands and precise positioning toward the sound source. This flexibility also makes it useful for musicians, as stereo recording can capture both the direct performance and the surrounding ambience, while mono mode can later be used for focused speech or presentations. Weighing just 204 grams with batteries, it remains very lightweight and easy to handle, and the included windscreen helps ensure cleaner outdoor recordings by reducing wind noise.
About Zoom
Founded in 1983, the Japanese company Zoom manufactures a variety of audio equipment, including a range of portable "handy" recorders as well as multi-effects processors, effects pedals, drum machines, and samplers. Over the past thirty years, the company has built a reputation for producing innovative yet affordable products based on original microchip designs. Since the Zoom-9002 (an ultra-compact multi-effects processor that can be attached to a guitar strap) was introduced in 1990, Zoom has become one of the leaders in digital audio processing.
Flexible recording conversion
All recorded data on the Zoom M2 MicTrak is stored on a microSD card (sold separately), providing a simple and flexible storage solution for field recordings. Recordings can be normalised directly on the device's menu, allowing levels to be optimised afterwards for clearer and more usable results without requiring precise gain adjustment during capture. In addition, 32-bit float recordings can be converted internally to 16-bit or 24-bit formats, ensuring broad compatibility with a wide range of audio software and workflows. The device also functions as a USB audio interface when connected to a computer, enabling direct transfer or live recording of audio captured through its internal X/Y capsule, streamlining both mobile and studio-based production setups.
