The Allen & Heath AR2412 audio rack is a digital stage box designed to expand compatible Allen & Heath mixing consoles with 24 remotely controllable microphone preamps and twelve line outputs, all using XLR connections for professional reliability. The link between the console and the AR2412 is established via standard Cat5 network cables, ensuring an efficient digital connection. In addition, two further network ports are available, one for connecting a second audio rack as an expander, and another for integrating the Allen & Heath ME personal monitoring system. With a compact 3-unit rack format, the AR2412 is built for straightforward installation in standard equipment racks, making the device a convenient and space-saving solution for live and studio environments.
Compact and versatile
The Allen & Heath AR2412 audio rack allows sound engineers to put together their own compact yet highly flexible mixing systems, offering reliable performance for a wide range of live and studio applications. Allen & Heath's proprietary dSnake transmission protocol ensures stable and seamless communication between the mixing console and the AR2412, with cable lengths of up to 100m possible for convenient stage setups. Preamp parameters such as gain, pad, and phantom power can be controlled directly from the mixing console and are automatically stored within the console scenes for consistent recall. Thanks to the expander input, an additional AR84 or AR168 audio rack can be integrated, making it possible to achieve up to 40 input channels and 20 output channels on stage, providing impressive scalability in a compact format.
For QU, SQ and Avantis owners
The Allen & Heath AR2412 audio rack is specifically designed for use with digital mixing consoles from the Qu, SQ and Avantis series, and can also be integrated with GLD series mixers for flexible system configurations. A particularly practical feature is the dedicated monitor output, which allows musicians to connect their own Allen & Heath ME series personal monitor mixers, giving them direct control over their own monitor mixes on stage. The AR2412 is not compatible with the iLive series or other Allen & Heath devices that use the ANC protocol, and it operates at a fixed sample rate of 48kHz, which means it cannot be used with the 96kHz-capable I/O modules from the DX and DT series. For both of these scenarios, suitable alternatives are available within the Allen & Heath product range, ensuring the right solution for every setup.
About Allen & Heath
Allen & Heath started building mixing consoles in London in 1969 and made a name for themselves hand-building mixers for some of the greatest bands of the era, such as Pink Floyd. Since 2014, Allen & Heath has been part of the Audiotonix Group, which in turn is managed by the company Electra Partners. Allen & Heath's headquarters are in Penryn, Cornwall (UK), where production takes place, alongside a second factory in China. The British firm is known for numerous innovations, including the development of modular console designs as well as their subsequent integration into MIDI environments. Today, Allen & Heath offer a wide range of products in almost every field of audio engineering - from the small six-channel ZED-6 mixing console to the full-scale dLive Pro Touring System.
Powerful mixing system
The combination of a compatible Allen & Heath digital mixing console and the AR2412 forms a solid foundation for a mixing system that would work equally well for permanent installation in live clubs as it would for mobile use in PA rental applications. This setup is also an attractive option for bands performing with a fixed stage configuration, offering reliability and consistent results from show to show. With the ME monitor mixer, each band member can independently adjust their own monitor mix, reducing the workload for the front-of-house engineer and streamlining the overall workflow, which is especially beneficial for shows like musicals or other theatrical productions, where soundcheck time is often limited.
