API Audio TranZformer LLX Bass Pedal

I am a mix engineer as well as a pro bassist for many years and there are a couple of pedals I am very picky about and always have on a pedal board and a good preamp is one of them. I have tried too many to count and a Neve or API style are my favourites. I am very pleased with this pedal. I am a big fan of API EQ’s in the studios and usually and usually reach for one for bass on most sessions I do as a mix engineer so figured I couldn’t go wrong with a pedal version. It gives me that distinct iron transistor clarity and punch The unit adds a nice heft, attitude and size to the notes even with very little EQ engaged.

I do want to clarify a few things.
First the positive: The EQ point? Very useful and can facilitate a lot of sounds.
The unit is robust and it does all the stuff their studio eqs do as far as punch, bite and attitude. This unit however is missing a DI out. This is not a deal breaker for me as I don’t run a clean and wet signal but for this price and I think for the application a lot of bassists would require it for, having a DI would make it so much more useful.
That’s the only negative.
The thing that is not to my taste is the drive, I can imagine it being useful to some but it’s really not the flavour of drive I like but I do like a bit of the added harmonic saturation the clean boost adds in.
So all in all, I think this pedal is great value and super intuitive and easy to use.

Il classico tono API in un pedale compatto e poco ingombrante. L’equalizzatore è molto bello e le bande di frequenza scelte, a mio parere, lo rendono efficace e funzionale anche nell’ottica di un ulteriore collegamento ad una testata. In tale prospettiva è molto utile il pad switch che consente di sottrarre -20 db. Già in modalità “Clean” emerge il carattere del trasfomatore API che aggiunge headroom al suono di base, ma è passando alla funzione “Overdrive”, attivando il circuito API 2510 OpAmp, dosabile attraverso la manopola gain, che il tono diventa ancora più caldo e consente di bucare ulteriormente il mix. La fattura del pedale è ottima e anche le dimensioni sono molto più compatte e ridotte rispetto al predecessore LX. Unico appunto/suggerimento: sarebbe stato ancora più bello e completo se avessero aggiunto un’uscita XLR bilanciata per renderlo a tutti gli effetti una D.I. di alta qualità.

Estoy muy contento con el preamplificador de Api en este formato pedal.
Con él se puede moldear/ ecualizar el sonido del bajo como se quiera.
Suena nítido y con un carácter muy especial.
Al principio pensaba que era caro, ahora después de tenerlo unos meses creo que es una maravilla sinceramente. Había leído algunos comentarios que decían que hubiera estado bien que tuviera una salida D.I. y un corte de frecuencias adicional en los graves. A mi modo de ver creo que está muy bien pensado tal cual. lo recomiendo, creo es un muy bueno.

Ein angenehm schlichtes Pedal mit einfacher Bedienung. Trotzdem gibt es dem Sound "das gewisse Etwas", welches so schwer zu beschreiben ist. Es ist eines dieser Pedale, die einen Schuss Magie dazugeben.
Der EQ greift genau da, wo es wichtig ist. Insbesondere wenn die Höhen nicht als Kuhschwanz benutzt werden. Das hebt den passiven P-Bass gleich eine Stufe höher.
Zur Zerre kann ich wenig sagen, benutze ich nicht. Für mich ist das ein klassisches always-on Pedal zur dauerhaften Soundverbesserung.

Einziger kleiner Schwachpunkt (bei meinem Pedal): die Stecker könnten fester sitzen in ihren Buchsen.

Fazit: zur Aufwertung passiver old-school Bässe richtig gut.
