I bought these microphones after years of researching and listening to different samples found on the internet.
First impressions were kind of bad because one of my microphones was damaged on arrival (packages were alright, so not a couriers fault) and after communicating with Thomann they offered to fix it for half of the repair costs. Extra 200¤. So there's that.
Now, how do they sound? Really really great.
I mainly use these as drum overheads, percussion and guitar amp mic's in which they do a really great job. Compared to condensers on overheads these pick up big and fat sounding toms. Never had as good sounding percussion as with 4038's.
These mic's are heavy so be sure to use a stand that can hold a lot of weight. I'm using K&M 21430 for this and it's great. Also be sure to buy a separate stand adapter (I bought Coles 4072 for my pair), because these come only with an xlr adapter.

Best decision of my life.

These mics are a game changer!
If you've never experienced ribbon mics, or have had bad experiences, you need to try a pair of coles.
These mics are the classics, and the sound of them shows why.
These mics are stupidly good on guitar amps, especially distorted guitars. They give you great low mids and low end that can sometimes be lacking in a dynamic, and with a bit of EQ you can add in the top end that the mic naturally rolls off.
Probably my favourite Thomann purchase.

You may love them.

Even bad cymbals can sound great under these bastards. They will not sound like high quality cymbals, but they can sound great in their own way. Very dark sounding, so they're far from optimal for many sources. As overheads they are magical! Great for guitar cabs and some acoustic guitars too.
