Sturdy case for DC-Style guitars

Granted, in most cases a simple gig bag is perfectly adequate for transporting a guitar, but sometimes you need a bit more protection. For instance, when the instrument vanishes into the bottomless abyss of the tour bus among boxes and cases, on the way to the gig, or if it needs to be stored under optimum protective conditions over a long period of time. The Gator Deluxe Case Vintage DC-Style, with its durable plywood construction and covering made of humidity-resistant Tolex, is an affordable way to transport and store double-cut electric guitars safely over an extended period of time.

Gator Deluxe Case Vintage DC-Style for electric guitar - opened

Custom-built for double-cut electric guitars

The Gator product range offers a substantial number of custom-made cases for almost every type of guitar. The Gator Deluxe Case Vintage DC-Style was developed specifically for double-cut electric guitars, and it fits instruments of this type perfectly. A sturdy handle has been attached to ensure that the case is perfectly balanced when carried, while the slightly arched lid also provides the best possible protection for the guitar's top. The interior contains a padded and velvety-soft inner lining, providing both a perfect fit and optimum protection from scratches thanks to its soft surface. Moreover, the case contains a storage compartment for important utensils such as strings, picks, or tuners - or the occasional can of beer.

Sturdy case built to take a beating

The Gator Deluxe Case Vintage DC-Style is suitable for all musicians with double-cut electric guitars who travel a lot and attach great importance to transporting their delicate equipment as safely as possible. Although hardly more expensive than a decent gig bag, this case offers considerably better protection and is the ideal companion for beginners on their way to lessons as well as for professionals whose instruments tend to vanish underneath bulky boxes on the tour bus. The sturdy handle facilitates transport in an optimally balanced position, while the velvety-soft inner lining effectively protects the instrument from scratches.

About Gator

Gator, or Gator Cases, is an American firm founded in 2000 by father-daughter team Jerry Freed and Crystal Morris in Tampa, Florida. Initially, Gator began with a modest range of moulded plastic guitar cases. From there, they expanded the product line to include case and bag solutions for the whole field of instruments and equipment. A wide variety is covered: Instruments, microphones, and all aspects of live performance, including lighting equipment. At the same time, products for other media areas such as photo and video are also available. All products are made of high-quality plastics, wood, textiles, and EVA materials. The Gator companies also include flight case manufacturer Viking Cases and guitar strap manufacturer Levy's Leathers Ltd., as well as Gator Rackworks and Gator Frameworks.

For gigs, trips to the rehearsal room, or long-term storage

The Gator Deluxe Case Vintage DC-Style shows its potential mainly when transport requires a bit of rough handling - and the double-cut guitar must therefore be perfectly protected. The shock-resistant outer shell made of multi-layer plywood with its durable Tolex covering can easily withstand even the hardest of knocks. If, on the other hand, the instrument is to be stored for long periods of time in the cellar or rehearsal room where conditions are not ideal, the case also rises effortlessly to the occasion. The guitar can thus be stored for extended periods and well protected from external influences, embedded in soft plush. Naturally, the Gator Deluxe Case Vintage DC-Style is also equipped with a lock to prevent unauthorised access.

Wow!

I bought this case for my Gibson SG special 2009 that I bought second hand.

It has a good looking rough brown tolex surface. I would say it is darker than how it looks on the product page. The surface is not flat and shiny like a Gibson brown case. It is textured. I didn't notice any problem with the keyhole or that handle as mentioned as an issue on previous reviews. And inside is a gorgeous pink softness!

Pros,
- SG tightly and perfectly fits
- There are support ramps under the upper body and on top of the headstock! Details makes this case amazing!
- Golden hardware matches the brown tolex perfectly.
- Quality price ratio is unbeatable (IMHO)
- Looks very fancy
Cons
- nothing except a 1cm long peel on the tolex around the bottom edge. It is not like it is flying on air. Two parts of the tolex are not touching each other and apart around 2-3mm for 1cm long. That's all.

Overall, I am amazed with what I got for under 80 euros. It was totally a right call not to spend almost 200 on a brown Gibson case. TBH, I would be less comfortable carrying a Gibson case around as well. It would definitely attract more theft risk.

If you don't case about the brand, I would recommend getting this amazing Gator case for your SG and save lots of bucks. This is my third Gator case/gigbag and never got disappointed.

Thank you Gator and Thomann!

Ga
Good Case, not for the touring Musician
Gerald aus E. 25.11.2015
The Gator Deluxe Case Vintage is a cool case for my Gibson SGJ 2014. It looks great and keeps it safe. The case looks geat. Building quality is okay.Constuction and the "fake" Leather look very good. Downside are the only 3 locks. The seem to be not the highest quality and i try to handle them with care.

Pros:
-attractive price
-cool vintage looks
-fits the SGJ 2014 perfectly

Cons:
-quality of locks
-quality handle

If you only take your SG to gigs 2-6 Times a year and handle your guitar and case with care when going to rehearsal, the Gator Deluxe Case Vintage DC-Style offers you a good case for a good price.

Vintage case

The case is good. Has a lock and spare keys. Fits my '61 SG perfectly. Seriously, for a case this cheap, the guitar doesn't move a bit! Maybe the handle feels a little cheap. But for this price??? Absolutely worth it! The only thing is that the inside is more pink than I expected from the photos. I wish it could be more red. But, I guess, some guitar cases in the old days had this pink color in the inside. Still, it looks cool. It really looks vintage, believe me.

A
Ideal for Blueshawks and Nighthawks
Anonymous 01.04.2015
Ordered Thursday arrived in the UK on Tuesday, interestingly DHL pass their UK deliveries to Parcelforce . The price is unbeatable; in the UK the best price I could find was £70. I offered GAK the opportunity to price match and didn?t even get a reply.
I got the case for my Gibson Blueshawk having read that Blueshawks and SGs can share the same case. After checking the fit of the Blueshawk into an Epiphone SG case at a local shop I was convinced. Howerever in the Epiphone case there is a ?lump? under the guitar body to account for the higher neck angle of the SG. Anyway the upshot was that I ordered the Gator case because it was cheaper than the Epiphone case and if need be I could change it to suit the Blueshawk. The Gator case is however perfect, there?s a bit of a gap around the upper bout but it?s a snug fit around the waist and lower bout so the guitar can?t move.

General build quality is ok. Not up to Gibson standard but nowhere near Gibson prices so excellent value for money.

Note that Gibson and Epiphone Nighthawks are the same size as Blueshawks so all the above applies to those too.
