Sennheiser MD 421-II

I originally bought this mic for use on the floor tom.
But, I have recently switched it onto a 10" rack tom.
In both cases it works well, although, on the rack tom it is surprisingly even more useful.
It adds a nice warm and round sound to a fairly high sounding tom.
What's with the damn mic clip though.
Pain in the a***. But, as long as you're not moving it too much it should be fine :-)
A well made pro mic with various uses.
Warm & well rounded tone and very nice to mix.

Really great microphone that delivers what the MD421 has done for years and will by it nice quality keep on making results for many years to come.
Mostly used it as microphone for my saxophones and works great both live and in the studio.

This mic works great on some sources I tried it on (cabs, toms) and is not that great on others IMO (vocals/acoustic). I am happy that I bought it, it is fantastic when it works. A better allrounder IMO would be the M88 but this is a classic and good to have in the locker.

Only used these on toms but very natural sounding.

Annoying clip on them though. When taking mic cables out I've lost count of the times I've knocked the attachment clip and watched it fall onto the tom!

Classic mic, unbelievably versatile and the built in filter really does solve a lot of problems. Can pick up a lot of bleed if used live however it does sound excellent. The plastic clip is a little wobbly and not the sturdiest design. Still a fabulous mic and a great addition to a lineup.
