I really like echo devices. I have a couple of Alesis Q20's with EFTP Shadows presets, a Boss RE-20 Space Echo and a TC Electronic Triple Delay.

The Triple Delay is the most recent and my Thomann review is still available to read. One of my beefs with it is that, because each of the three delay engines share the same three control knobs for Delay Time, Feedback and Mix, you have little idea where the knobs should be to reflect the settings of each of the three presets after they have been stored.

So I decided to try the same idea, to achieve multi-head delays, but with three conventional stomp boxes.

However, I have discovered something else. And it is VERY significant. TC Electronic have tweaked the tones of some of the presets for the Flashback 2 series and they are significantly more musical. I tend to use the 'Tape' preset quite a lot and these FB2 pedals are lot less clinical sounding than the Triple Delay. For example, the individual repeats of a multi-head tape delay, with more than one pedal on at the same time, do not ring out as clear and audible repeats, but tend to merge so that the effect is more like a massive sustaining reverb — but without the swampy mess.

The only thing I miss is the option to switch the three delays into a parallel mode, as one can on the Triple Delay.

Although the Triple Delay can store presets, and not lose them because a knob gets accidentally moved, these are infinitely more usable on stage because adjusting the parameters is straight forward.

UPDATE: These pedals are shipped with a firmware version that does not include the option to select either MASH or TAP as an added function for the footswitch. Download the firmware file and install instructions from the TC Electronic website. Updating the firmware is a straight forward procedure.

Once installed, you are able to select which function using the TonePrint computer app.

Best buck for your money
Kiruaz, 26.08.2020
There are some better delays but not in this price range.
This pedal is just perfect for the price: best value/price ratio.
You will have so many features and you can add more via the 3 toneprints you can use. You can download from their website the delay you like, copy delays of famous bands,...
And if you need a looper instead of a delay: this feature is also possible.
So many possibilities, one of the most versatile delay pedals you can find on the market.
If i needed a second a second delay for a new pedal board: without hesitation I will buy a new one

Flashback 2 is an incredible and versatile delay pedal
penuvapo, 03.02.2020
Flashback 2 is an incredible and versatile delay pedal.

All the different delay settings of the flashback 2 are great and well thought out - however, after a while, I ended up mostly using two of the seven main delay settings: the analog and tape delay (which is not a negative opinion by any means, just my personal use). The three toneprint settings are also a great feature as you can mold them whichever way you like on the Toneprint App, adding to the versatility of the pedal.

The mash function is quite innovative. Personally, I only use the mash in the analog and tape delay settings as they are more vibrant and unique. The other settings with the mash did not quite appeal to me. Nevertheless, the mash function is certainly a strong feature and/or a bonus to this delay pedal.

The flashback 2 pedal is built quite sturdy and, measurement-wise, it can fit any pedalboard quite nicely. I would 100% recommend this delay pedal to anyone looking for affordable, but also good-sounding delay pedals that have several types of delay-settings at their disposal.

The flashback 2 is one of the best pedals by tc electronic and one of the best delay pedals in this price range.

One of the best delay pedals out there for that price point
GearHead:), 08.11.2019
Very versatile delay pedal, with near infinite variability with the tone print capabilities.

The stock delays sound great and is one of my most used pedals on my board. I mainly use it with a light fuzz and reverb to get very tasty ambient sounds. To be honest though, this pedal can meet near every delay requirements.

Even though it is not a main function of the pedal, the loop function is ok, but cheaper loop pedals would do a better job.

I would give the features 5 stars if there was a tap tempo functionality. But after spending a lot of time with the Flashback 2, dialling in the correct repeat speed on the fly became easy.

The casing and switch are built to a high quality and produces great tones. I just wish sometimes it had a tap tempo function.
