The Warm Audio WA-FT Fen-tone revives the classic sound of the 1950s in a compact ribbon microphone. Its distinctive pencil-style design is inspired by a historic original, while modern components are used to faithfully recreate the legendary character. There have also been some subtle improvements, resulting in rich midrange detail and a gentle roll-off above 15kHz that delivers smooth presence without harsh sibilance. The Fen-tone's figure-of-eight polar pattern reduces lateral sound, capturing audio from the front and rear for a focused and balanced response. A built-in analogue preamp means vocalists can connect it directly to an audio interface, seamlessly bringing vintage tone into contemporary music productions.

Unlike its predecessor, the Warm Audio WA-FT Fen-tone features a specially manufactured 1.8µm Japanese ribbon, a neodymium rare earth magnet, and a CineMag transformer from the USA, combining classic design with modern precision. It captures frequencies from 30Hz to 15kHz, while a maximum sound pressure level of 148dB and a signal-to-noise ratio of 87dB allow for highly dynamic recordings in which even subtle details remain clear. When phantom power is engaged, the built-in active preamplifier delivers 26dB of gain and maintains an output impedance of 300 ohms, making integration into modern setups straightforward. A robust housing made from 99.1% aluminium completes the design, ensuring durability alongside its refined sonic character.

This ribbon microphone is especially well suited for recording acoustic instruments such as pianos, brass, or string instruments, as well as electric guitar amplifiers, delivering a warm and natural sound character. Its figure-of-eight polar pattern makes it possible to record two opposing sound sources, for example a pair of acoustic guitars, with balanced results. Used in pairs, two Warm Audio WA-FT Fen-tone microphones also work excellently as drum overheads, capturing the direct sound from the front while the rear picks up the natural ambience of the room.
