The P-225 is equipped with Yamaha's new GHC keyboard (Graded Hammer Compact), which features heavier weighting in the lower keys and lighter weighting in the upper keys, delivering a playing experience that closely resembles an acoustic piano. This makes it an excellent choice for beginners looking to transition to a full hammer-action piano in the future. With 192-note polyphony and 24 high-quality voices, the P-225 offers impressive sonic versatility. Its primary piano sound is sampled from the renowned Yamaha CFX concert grand, enhanced with key-off samples and Virtual Resonance Modeling (VRM Lite) to create a rich, realistic, and highly expressive playing experience. For added versatility, sounds can be combined in layer mode – for example, blending piano with strings for emotional, expressive ballads. Thanks to its two integrated headphone jacks, the P-225 supports silent practice for two people. A tablet or computer can be hooked up using the keyboard's USB-to-host connection. Rounding off the package is the sustain pedal, which is included as standard, with the option of also connecting a 3-pedal unit.

The Yamaha P-225 includes a convenient music rest that slots easily onto the top panel. It holds not only sheet music and books but also a smartphone or tablet, which can be connected to the keyboard via USB/MIDI or the optional Yamaha UD-BT01 Bluetooth MIDI adapter (iOS only). Yamaha’s free "Smart Pianist" app includes sheet music for 303 songs and also unlocks a variety of powerful features. Songs can be played back via MIDI on the keyboard, making it easy to listen, play along, and learn at one's own pace. The app also provides seamless remote control of the P-225's functions, offering a more intuitive and flexible playing experience.
