Hybrid concept, hi‑res sound

The AKG N5 Hybrids are earbuds that take a very different approach from typical true‑wireless systems. Alongside Bluetooth 5.3 (with LDAC, AAC and SBC support), the package includes a 2.4GHz USB‑C dongle capable of transmitting high‑resolution audio at up to 24‑bit/96kHz. In practice, that means these buds aren't just for on‑the‑go streaming from a smartphone – they also deliver a stable, low‑latency link to a tablet, laptop, console, or desktop. This hybrid setup makes them ideal for work, travel, and play, making the N5 Hybrids more a flexible audio tool than simple lifestyle in‑ears. For anyone moving between streaming music, video calls, gaming, and mobile audio monitoring, the N5 offers a high‑quality, multi‑scenario solution that clearly outperforms Bluetooth‑only devices.

Sound & specs

Inside the AKG N5 Hybrids, a 10mm driver with a DLC‑coated diaphragm covers a frequency range from 20Hz to 40kHz. An impedance of 16 ohms and a sensitivity rating of 95dB give the earbuds generous volume reserves while keeping playback controlled: Treble is clean and well‑defined, the bass warm but never artificially boosted, and the overall tuning feels balanced. The AKG app lets users create personalised sound profiles, and a call EQ improves speech clarity. Multipoint Bluetooth 5.3 supports two devices at once, and a single‑ear mode helps save power day to day. Controls sit directly on the touch surfaces – no menu‑diving required.

A setting for every setting

The N5 Hybrids' adaptive noise cancelling automatically adjusts to the surrounding environment, cutting down steady background noise such as traffic or office hum. Ambient Aware mode blends outside sound back in when needed, while TalkThru makes conversations possible even with the earbuds in. This flexibility proves genuinely useful on the go. The earbuds carry an IP54 rating for dust and splash resistance, with the case rated IP52. At 6g per bud and 48.4g for the case, the whole setup stays easy to carry. The mix of ANC, transparency modes and robust build makes the N5 Hybrid a genuinely multi‑role system – equally at home on the commute, in the gym, in the editing suite, or during calls that shift from desk to meeting room.

Power through the week

The AKG N5 Hybrids offer up to 10 hours of playback per charge, with the case extending total runtime to as much as 40 hours. A full charge of the earbuds takes around two hours, while the fast‑charge function provides roughly four hours of listening after just 15 minutes in the case. The case itself recharges via USB‑C and also supports wireless charging with a compatible pad (sold separately). Alongside the earbuds and case, the package includes the USB‑C dongle, a USB‑C to USB‑A adapter, a USB‑A to USB‑C cable and three pairs of ear tips (S, M and L). A 60‑day Qobuz trial is also included, letting listeners tap into the buds' hi‑res potential straight away.

About AKG

AKG was founded in Vienna, in 1947, by Dr. Rudolf Goerike and Ernst Pless. After only a few months, the first AKG microphones were already being used for the first time in radio stations and theatres. AKG's big breakthrough occurred during the early 1950s, with some very sophisticated innovations that were unique in their field. One example is the D12, the first large-diaphragm condenser microphone with remote-controlled, switchable polar patterns – the first client to acquire them was the BBC in London. AKG is today a world-renowned brand in many different fields. With countless high-class products in its range, such as the well-known C414, the name AKG has always been synonymous with quality and outstanding sound.

Music & more

The AKG N5 Hybrid Black is aimed at users who value flexible connectivity, high sound quality and expanded audio options. Anyone who only streams music occasionally or needs basic Bluetooth features will find slimmer, more affordable options. The hybrid concept – with its hi‑res dongle, multipoint support, and adaptive noise cancelling – instead targets people who work with sound across multiple devices and in shifting day‑to‑day scenarios. It shines in flexible home‑studio setups, during video calls, or when switching on the fly between laptop and smartphone. Travellers and frequent commuters benefit from the active noise cancelling and IP54 rating, while more demanding listeners get support for high‑quality codecs like LDAC and an extended frequency range that reveals finer detail.
