EMG Crossroads Pickups are the best and quickest upgrade to improve a tired single coils pickups tone
Bambam5150 26.12.2025
I’ve always used EMG humbuckers in my superstarts, but after identifying that I didn’t have a “true” strat in my arsenal, I opted for a parts caster self build. There was only ever one option for my single coils pickups, but the dilemma was more of a “which ones” rather than a “what make”.
After extensive research I opted for the Crossroads set for a balanced and not over outputted set, and I’ve not been disappointed
Installation is a breeze with the solderless wiring and the 5 selector switch gives me the option of classic positioning in 2 & 4 for woody Hendrix like tones, and solidly EQ’d positions in the other pickup selections. Classic strat tones without the harsh top end associated with single coils but still with punch and bite where it sounds best in the EQ curve
The pickups are hum and noise free, classily voiced to be medium output but still enough to roar through a medium gained up amp.
Clean, these pickups are easily the best I’ve used, and RHCP songs are but a compression pedal away.
I’m extremely happy with these pickups and would recommend them to anyone looking to improve a lifeless strat tone into something a lot more 3 dimensional
As usual Thomann kept me up to date with my order, and actually delivered these pickups 4 days earlier than originally quoted.
Being in the UK is a difficult place to get EMG pickups easily so my last 4 purchases have all been via Thomann. Quick, easy and despite being in a different t country, service and price is far superior to some outlets in my own country.
Greta pickups. Great company

Complètement convaincu
kewy 04.07.2023

Consigliato

Great sparkle
chris5 24.02.2025
Did the switch to Crossroads, from the SA pickups.
They have a tiny bit more sparkle, when played through the same rig and settings, with nothing else touched. Compared to the SA pickups that is.

Both sets sounds great, and I can't really tell you one is better than the other.
If I lost the Crossroads pickups in some random event, I'd get a new set only because they show the pole pieces. They look more classy.
Sound compared with the SA model it was very similar, just a tiny bit sharper tone.
