User-friendly control for NKS plugins
The Komplete Kontrol A-Series USB/MIDI controller keyboards provide an accessible entry into the Native Instruments ecosystem, combining integration with pre-configured NKS and Komplete plugin mappings with practical hands-on control over transport, mixing, and editing functions in widely used DAWs. Buttons and touch-sensitive controls help to keep the workflow direct and intuitive by reducing the need to switch constantly between the keyboard, computer mouse, and screen. The Komplete Kontrol A25 also includes a software bundle featuring synthesizers and Komplete instruments, which provides more than 6,700 sounds and presets as a broad foundation for music production and creative work.
MIDI keyboard and software bundle
The Komplete Kontrol A25 is the most compact in the series, with a velocity-sensitive keyboard geared toward solo playing and triggering samples and loops. Eight assignable controls with pre-programmed mappings for NKS plugins, together with pitch and modulation wheels, provide direct access to important parameters of the selected preset, allowing adjustments to be made while playing and recorded directly to the user's DAW. USB power makes the keyboard easy to integrate into a mobile setup with a laptop, while the accompanying Komplete Kontrol software manages NKS integration and provides direct access to browsing and previewing instrument, sample, and loop libraries.
The best budget entry-level option
The combination of the NKS-compatible keyboard and included software bundle provides a comprehensive starting point for modern music production across a wide range of genres. With the Komplete 15 Select Bundle, Maschine Essential, and Ableton Live Lite, users have access to a broad set of instruments and production tools, while the close integration between the keyboard and software helps streamline the workflow and keeps many functions within easy reach. Compared with the S Series, the A61 omits features such as Lite Guide, the Touch Strip, and the larger display, but retains the creative Smart Play functions, including Scale, Chord, and Arpeggiator, making these tools available even in this more affordable member of the Komplete Kontrol range.
About Native Instruments
Native Instruments is a Berlin-based company, founded in 1996, which specialises in products for computer-assisted music production. The company develops a wide variety of products: software solutions such as Komplete, which hosts a huge range of virtual instruments that emulate both acoustic and electronic instruments in hi-fi quality, and Reaktor, which lets you create your own virtual instruments – through to hardware products such as beat-making and DJ controllers. Native Instruments' goal is to inspire and encourage musicians with its innovative products. To this end, more than 500 people are employed at the company's headquarters in Berlin and at other locations including Los Angeles, Toronto, Tokyo, London, Paris, and Shenzhen. Since 2023, the manufacturers Plugin Alliance, iZotope, and Brainworx have also been part of Native Instruments.
Faster workflows with NKS
Although the keyboard can also function as a conventional USB/MIDI controller for a wide range of plugins and DAWs, its main focus is on the Native Kontrol Standard (NKS), which is now supported not only by Native Instruments but also by numerous third-party manufacturers. With the A25, NKS-compatible instruments and effects can be controlled using consistently mapped parameters, while loop and sample libraries can be browsed and previewed directly from the keyboard. This streamlined approach can make studio workflows more efficient, particularly when working with extensive collections of presets and sounds, and the same consistent operation is useful in mobile laptop setups where many tasks can be handled directly from the keyboard without reaching for a mouse.
