Problem-free power brick
RichardBR, 08.11.2020
I have a few power bricks for guitar pedal boards, One-Spot CS-7, Tone City Substation, as well as smaller power devices such as the 1-Spot daisychain. I've had quality devices, such as the CS-7, and not so perfect things like the Substation, which is quite noisy.

Thomann's Harley Benton PowerPlant ISO-12 sits comfortably with the One-Spot CS-7 in that "zero noise/plenty of options/good overall power rating" category - but at about half the price! It's also a great deal less bulky, which allows it to fit below even small pedalboards with ease.

All the power cables are supplied, and with 12 outlets that is a lot of cables. The ratings of individual outputs also permits some degree of daisychaining since there is enough juice for at least a couple of pedals per output unless they're digital monster-pedals. You'll need to find your own daisychain cables though, if you go that route. With 12 outputs it is unlikely you'll need to daisychain anyway.

Three outputs are switchable voltages, 9/12/18, 9 for typical pedals, 12v for things like Boss pedals, and 18v for anything that can handle it, such as my Xotic SL Drive Red, which gains a lot of headroom when it runs at 18v. Outputs can be combined with a suitable 3rd party splitter cable used to join the two outputs and feed the current to the pedal.

For me, using this on a pedalboard with mixed CPU pedals (Empress Echosystem) and normal cuircuit pedals, everything plays nicely together with no extraneous noise, every bit as good as my 1-Spot CS7. I'm very happy with the unit so far, and a friend tested the isolation aspect and gave it the thumbs up with regard to the isolation, since some power supplies, including some older Harley Benton models, are basically just daisy-chains in a box.

I like the simplicity of use, and also the separate transformer/plug, I like the LED indicators that would highlight circult probems nd, with the transformer elsewhere, the slim profile works very well on low-profile boards.

It's a winner.

Best for the price

I was having trouble finding an isolated power supply which would provide adequate amperage over all outputs and was actually affordable, then I saw this one and it hit the spot perfectly! Most of my pedals (and most basic effects) have very low draw, but my GCA Plasma Pedal needed 300mA whilst a couple of effects I am considering need up to 500. A lot of others in this price and above, with this many outputs, work on splitting the available amps or have only around 150mA max. This block provides up to 300mA for EACH 9v output, and 500 on the switchable outputs; Perfect!

I'm sure there are better ones out there but honestly all I would prefer is a stronger power cable (as with the larger AC unit that Thomann offer), although the one with this supply should be fine if not seriously abused.

This powers all I need, the isolated outputs seem totally noise free, and the shallow profile allows mounting even under flat pedalboards.
Great stuff and a great price!

tremendous value for money

Got the HB ISO-12 as my board had grown beyong my two other power supplies and rather than getting an additional smaller supply this one with 12 outputs three of which can run up to 18V is perfect. Having isolated outputs mean I have not experienced any additional noise compared to an all-battery-powered board. The size is perfect for mounting under my board and it is light enough to only require a bit of pedal board tape to fit. I do not know how well it will endure with plugs being unplugged often, but my board is relatively static and I have another 3 power supplies if I want to test things out. Therefore mine will most likely not have the leads unplugged often. The only slight downside is that all the leads that come with the supply are the same length meaning some run excessively long and have to be zip-tied to keep things neat. I recommend this product wholeheartedly. Are there better products available? Probably. Are there any which suit my need and my wallet as well? I doubt it.

Excellent

I had been using the ISO-2 PRO for a few years now and was very happy. Recently I updated my pedalboard and introduced more digital power-hungry pedals. Supposedly the ISO-2 PRO should be able to handle it as I had done my calculations (according to the manufacturer specs) and distributed some inevitable daisy chains in such a way that the 2000mA were never exceeded, however the ISO-2 PRO couldn't handle it. This means that either the ISO-2 PRO can't handle 2000mA as stated, or the pedal manufacturers state false data or that during start-up (that most digital pedals draw current) there is a spike above 2000mA. In any case, after my initial disappointment and hesitation to buy another PowerPlant, it was still one of the best options for the money so I decided to give it a go. For the moment it's working fine, if I notice anything strange in the future I will update
