So loud, so low, so clear
Not every live sound setup has room for a rack, a mixer, and a separate amplifier. The Mackie Thump12v4 puts the essentials into a single cabinet – a 1400W Class D amplifier, a 12" woofer, and a 1" compression driver delivering up to 129dB SPL with a frequency response extending down to 47Hz. A built-in two-channel mixer handles microphone, line, and auxiliary sources directly, while SoundCheck DSP provides four voicing modes, a feedback eliminator, music ducking, and outdoor mode, all accessible directly from the rear panel. Bluetooth streaming and wireless speaker linking are built in, with full remote control via the Thump Connect 2 app. The lightweight composite enclosure – 12.5kg – features metal handles, three M10 fly points, a standard pole mount, and a monitor wedge angle for floor use.
At the touch of a button
On the rear panel of the Mackie Thump12v4, two XLR/TRS combo inputs handle mic/line on channel 1 and line signals on channel 2, with a 1/8" aux input on channel 2 for smartphones and media players; a mono XLR mix output passes the combined signal – including Bluetooth audio – to additional speakers. The voicing modes are selectable at the touch of a button: Flat delivers a neutral response for general playback; DJ mode shapes the low end for music playback; Live mode emphasises the midrange for speech intelligibility and live sound; Wedge mode optimises the response for floor monitor use. The feedback eliminator suppresses unwanted feedback automatically, and music ducking lowers the channel 2 level whenever a microphone signal appears on channel 1. The front LED can be switched off for discreet installations.
An easygoing all-rounder
The Mackie Thump12v4 is aimed at musicians, solo performers, DJs, and small venues who need a self-contained PA without an external mixer. Solo performers can connect a microphone and an instrument directly to the two inputs and work from a single speaker; DJs benefit from Bluetooth streaming – two units link wirelessly in stereo, zone, or dual mono – and both physical inputs remain available simultaneously. The voicing modes do useful work across all these scenarios – Live mode for speech and karaoke, DJ mode for music playback, Wedge mode for stage monitoring – without requiring any knowledge of audio engineering. The feedback eliminator and ducking function simplify operation for presenters and event hosts. For those who need greater low-end extension and higher output, the Thump15v4 offers a larger 15" woofer and an extra dB SPL in the same format.
About Mackie
In 1988 Greg Mackie, already a successful co-founder of a pro audio company, founded Mackie Designs Inc. with the goal of producing affordable, high-quality mixers. The company's first official product, the LM-1602 line mixer, was initially produced within the four walls of his home. As sales figures were encouraging, its successor model CR-1604 soon followed - and in 1991 the company finally moved into its first proper production facility. The combination of reliable quality and low prices quickly brought the company enormous success, so that by 1995 Mackie had already sold 100,000 products. In 2003, the company was renamed LOUD Audio, LLC so that there is no longer any confusion between the Mackie brand and its former parent company of the same name.
Built to handle it all
In day-to-day use, the Thump12v4's lightweight construction, integrated mixer, and DSP tools cover most real-world scenarios – from music playback and DJ sets to live bands and corporate presentations. Its combination of output, simplicity, and flexible deployment also makes it attractive to rental providers, as the 12v4 can be deployed as a PA speaker or stage monitor alike. The angled enclosure serves as both a front-of-house speaker and floor monitor. The front LED switches off if necessary. Three M10 fly points allow suspended installations, as well as standard pole and floor wedge configurations. For extended low-end performance, the Thump12v4 pairs with the subwoofers from the Thump v4 series – the matched crossover points ensure a coherent full-range response in both simple plug-and-play and more carefully aligned PA systems.
