Compact interface for mobile recording

The Shure Motiv MVX2U Gen 2 introduces the second generation of one of the most compact audio interfaces available and combines a small form factor with a range of updated features for improved recording and streaming performance. New additions include an Auto-Level mode, real-time denoising, and the Digital Popper Stopper, all of which provide flexible internal audio processing controlled via Shure's MOTIV apps. The integrated DAC has also been refined, resulting in a lower noise floor for cleaner signal quality. Recent settings are automatically stored, ensuring that the preferred sound profile remains available even when changing between different setups. With its streamlined workflow and advanced processing options, the MVX2U Gen 2 enables high-quality recordings and streams in a compact and handy format.

Internal signal processing

The Shure Motiv MVX2U Gen 2 provides up to 60dB of gain and a noise floor of -117dB, delivering a clean signal for high-quality recordings and streams. Phantom power at 48V can be activated via the MOTIV apps to support the use of condenser microphones, while the same software also provides access to the interface's additional processing features. These include Auto-Level mode for maintaining consistent recording levels, the real-time denoiser for reducing unwanted background noise, and the Digital Popper Stopper for minimising plosive sounds. Alongside the USB-C connection, a headphone output enables latency-free monitoring, making the MVX2U Gen 2 a practical solution for applications where precise audio feedback is essential, including music recording.

Plug-and-play for immediate use

Thanks to its plug-and-play functionality, the Shure Motiv MVX2U Gen 2 transforms almost any microphone into a ready-to-use recording and streaming solution. The included USB-C cable allows it to be connected to tablets and smartphones for high-quality mobile recording with minimal equipment. Since settings are stored internally, the selected sound profile remains available even when changing microphones or setups. Any adjustments can be made quickly and easily via the MOTIV apps, which also provide access to further processing tools such as an equaliser, a compressor, a limiter, and a high-pass filter for refined broadcast-style audio. Firmware updates can also be installed via the apps, ensuring continued access to improvements and additional features.

About Shure

The American company Shure began developing microphones during the early 1930s and is one of the pioneers of the audio engineering sector. Models such as the 55 Unidyne – known to many as the "Elvis microphone" – and the SM57 and SM58 which appeared in the mid-1960s are still ubiquitous in live sound production today. They enjoy cult status among musicians and technicians alike. In the 1990s, Shure introduced the first wireless microphones and in-ear monitoring systems and became a market leader in this field. In addition to microphones, Shure offers a wide range of earphones and headphones for studio and live use, as well as various accessories.

Useful recording tips

With the included USB-C cable, the Shure Motiv MVX2U Gen 2 is ready for use almost immediately. Once connected to the desired microphone, it can be linked to a device running macOS, Windows, iOS, or Android via USB, providing a straightforward recording and streaming setup. For consistent levels, maintaining a constant distance from the microphone is recommended: A position between 15 and 30cm will help to achieve a balanced sound while reducing the influence of room reflections and reverberation. During recording or streaming sessions, keeping the number of active applications to a minimum can also help ensure that the available processing power is used efficiently, particularly when working with mobile devices such as smartphones or tablets.

Brilliant little interface
Jack-Sparrow 13.06.2026
I've now had this for a week as my daily driver for an SM57. My use cases: desktop and on-the-road voice dictation, video calls, and podcast streaming/recording. I wanted minimal size, maximum convenience, onboard DSP and decent specs. This unit ticks all my boxes and allows me to record everything without further postprocessing, which saves me a lot of time and helps speech clarity considerably. Its size means I can work from anywhere without lugging around a bigger interface. Very pleased with this purchase.

The changes I'd like to see in a future gen 3: more customisation for the EQ, compressor and limiter. EQ is currently limited to a handful of fixed frequencies, limiter is on/off, compressor only has 3 settings. Ideally I'd like full parametric control of all DSP features.
