Shure SM 86

Vocal Condenser Microphone

The Shure SM86 is a condenser microphone with cardioid polar pattern for professional live use. The robust condenser microphone can withstand every stressing situation on stage, and still provides studio quality. The matched frequency response of the SM86 provides a precise reproduction of the voice, and the cardioid polar pattern, pointing directly to the signal source, ensures a almost noise-free signal. The built-in three-point shock absorber reduces handling noise, while the two-layer windscreen minimizes wind and pop noise. The SM86 is an excellent choice for both stage and in-ear monitoring.

love it

such a differnt sound to an sm58..... more air and warmth... I use it in full band situations and also on solo acoustic guitar gigs. On the solo gigs the warmth really comes through and with very few feedback problems. Also used it for recording vocals and acoustic guitar and it works great... very strong and well built.

Upgrade from SM58
ABScott, 19.01.2019
I have nothing bad to say about this microphone, I upgraded from the SM58 as I felt I wasn't getting the warmth I wanted as I perform with only an acoustic guitar. This microphone gives a much fuller sound to your voice and has allowed me to fully immerse myself into the music without concerning myself with my sound.

We are a male accapela singing group and we are using these mics for recording our on stage performances. The recorded sound is very clear there is no problem with feedback, the mic is very solid build it has a nice mounting piece coming with it. The mic has a very warm and bright sound characteristic which is very nice for accapela singing.

Great mic. Absolutely satisfied.

Do not hesitate choosing this condenser for loud environments.
Shure Sm86 does keep up tightly with my large diaphragm brother for recording, while having the plus of a slightly more live oriented frequency range, and the classic sturdy Shure anatomy for handling, (commonly associated with dynamic mics), essential if you employ mic technique (singers).
It will of course pick up environment sound more easily in comparison to a dyn. but nothing that you cannot adjust with using close mic tech and less amp only really needed if you demand an immaculate recording from your gigs. All this for obvious quality compensation, watch any SM58 comparison and see for yourself.
