Ph nomena ...

... so my conclusion after the first assignments. Whoever is looking for the purest, crystal-clear reproduction and can not do anything with tubes, is probably wrong here. For all others, a test is worthwhile. The device has a very solid appearance and is very cleanly manufactured. The use of the potentiometers and switches is really fun ;-) - the potentiometers are fine-tuned, the EQ frequency controllers snap.

From modern clear sound to strong "roehrig" (when using a lot of gain) is actually everything. The EQ offers three passive bands (low: only raise, mid: only lower, high: only raise), which are very wide and also interrelate. Who had never had such a thing under their fingers: Amazing, how quickly you get used to the switchable fixed frequencies and the "only-lowering" in the mid-range ...
Very nice: The application frequency in the high band goes up to 24 kHz, so many possibilities to bring pleasant silvery heights. Otherwise the stop is no EQ for narrow-band interventions, but rather for subtle sound design, however, he can very well.

EQ and compressor are adjustable in order; There is even a circuit variant in which the EQ acts on the compressor path. The compressors themselves are arranged one after the other and can be used separately or together. Just set the desired gain reduction and select either Auto or slow- or fast mode. "Auto" has proven to me so far very good. The opto-compressor is a fire-and-forget weapon, especially for vocals. Just settle and forget. It condenses very pleasantly and softly and only falls when you switch it off ...

The vari-? compressor requires a little more attention; Both together to use, one should necessarily try out, since both compressor design complement each other excellently.

Guitars, especially the acoustic, also benefit from the pleasantly soft sound of the VTRC and can be refined with the EQ very tastefully. For me very surprising was that my Ovation directly at the VTRC over the pickup (Fishman) decreased already sounded as before over a Tascam 3200 plus Neumann KM184.

Conclusion: A tubular bolide, which is absolutely worth its price.
