Digital technology, analogue workflow

As the successor to the L12, the Zoom LiveTrak L12next is building on a well-established concept. Unlike many devices in its class, it isn't simply a digital mixer with a few extra features, but a genuinely integrated all‑in‑one solution: Users can mix, record, and monitor all at the same time, with full control even without a computer. When it comes to mixing, Zoom has combined modern digital signal processing with a clear focus on a hardware control layout that delivers a familiar analogue workingflow. At the same time, many live functions can be controlled remotely from an iPad. The recording workflow is also fully self‑contained: Multitrack recordings can saved directly to an SD card, with advanced functions such as mixdown, overdub and auto‑punch handled via the onboard OLED display. In addition, the master is recorded as a stereo mix in 32‑bit float, allowing even high signal levels to be captured cleanly. To round things off, five independent monitor outputs make it possible to create individual mixes for the entire band.

Hands-on live control

Unlike the many compact digital mixers that hide key parameters behind layers of menus, the Zoom LiveTrak L12next keeps every channel accessible through physical controls. The full complement of faders and encoders allows fast, intuitive adjustments even in live situations, for a direct and tactile sense of control. Producers can select which parameters the encoders address – such as gain, three‑band EQ, compression, or effect sends – using the function switches. LED rings provide clear visual feedback, showing both signal levels and parameter positions at a glance. Designed for live use, the L12next offers eight combination XLR/jack inputs with mic preamps and switchable 48V phantom power. The first two inputs include a Hi‑Z option for direct instrument recording, while the remaining channels feature a –20 dB pad, handling high input levels cleanly and without distortion.

For bands and content creators

The Zoom LiveTrak L12next is designed for anyone looking to process, mix and record multiple signal sources at the same time. Musicians and bands benefit not only from its compact all‑in‑one design, but also from the five independent monitor paths. At the same time, the L12next works well as a central hub for streaming and podcasting, allowing several microphones, playback sources, and external signals to be managed at once – without the need for additional routers or mixing software. The unit functions as a fully featured USB audio interface, making it easy to feed live interviews or streams directly into common applications while recording simultaneously to SD card or computer. The L12next's combination of standalone recording, USB interface functionality, and iPad control supports a wide range of production workflows, from live performances to studio recordings and podcast roundtables.

About Zoom

Founded in 1983, the Japanese company Zoom manufactures a variety of audio equipment, including a range of portable "handy" recorders as well as multi-effects processors, effects pedals, drum machines, and samplers. Over the past thirty years, the company has built a reputation for producing innovative yet affordable products based on original microchip designs. Since the Zoom-9002 (an ultra-compact multi-effects processor that can be attached to a guitar strap) was introduced in 1990, Zoom has become one of the leaders in digital audio processing.

For flexible live operation, the Zoom LiveTrak L12next focuses on reliable control and quick recall. All physical settings can be stored as scenes and restored instantly when needed, which is a real advantage for recurring setups or multiple acts with short changeovers. Adjustments to the sound output are made directly on the unit as well, with 16 manually adjustable reverb and delay effects. At the same time, the L12next supports more demanding monitoring requirements in everyday live use. Multiple musicians can work in parallel with individual monitor mixes, either in stereo for IEM systems or in mono for traditional stage monitors. The integrated talkback microphone simplifies communication and helps keep soundchecks, rehearsals, and live situations running smoothly. All this makes the LiveTrak L12next more than just as a flexible digital mixer – it's an effective, practical hub for diverse live and recording setups.

All-In-One
Erress 14.03.2026
Pluspunkte
