Good looking, great sounding at a great value price

I already own a TE52 vintage and I am delighted with it.
My family decided to surprise me with this 62 for my birthday as I was so impressed with it.
The finish is flawless. The double binding makes it look really classy.
It is as some have pointed out, slightly lighter than the pictures show, but that is probably down to the metallic effect of the paint.
The frets are well set and polished. I will lower the action as it is a little high for my taste but it was playable out of the box (after tuning). The tuners are fine. They feel solid and hold the tuning well.
It feels like a totally different playing experience to the 52, which is a good thing.
It is good deal lighter for a start. The neck has a different profile which I suppose makes it feel different in hand. The Roswell pickups are the same as on the 52 , and provide everything from a lovely crisp twang on the bridge, or a full sound on the neck, almost like an acoustic, when used with the tone control. The different wood in the construction must make a difference to the sound because it is different to the Te52 , but not in any bad way.
On clean, through my Fender amp, it sounds great, and playing around with the drive channel allows a more crunchy bluesy feel to it .
The problem now is finding the time to play both of them.
In my review of the Te52 I mentioned how it is far superior to my son’s Squier, something he confirmed, although he was surprised by the difference in weight. The 62 is nearer to the Squier in weight but I still think it leaves it trailing in terms of build quality and sound despite costing less.
I am delighted with it.

Can't beat the Price to Quality ratio

I bough this with some skepticism in mind but man was it a worthy purchase. Can not believe how good this feels and sounds. The finishing is great, could not find any faults there. Roasted maple neck is very comfortable to play on. Set-up was also not bad, I just had to lower the action a bit to my taste, but that's subjective from player to player.

The only improvement could be the pickup selector, feels a bit flimsy, but works just fine. Also, removing the protective peel/sticker was not an easy task, I still have some small pieces left underneath the bridge pickup and the tone and volume knobs, which I can't seem to take off, I think I might have to open some screws to get them out.

Overall, this guitar would be a clear recommendation from my side. It's hard to believe I got such an amazing instrument for such a low price. It looks incredible and plays very comfortably.

At first, I did not plan to write a review of this guitar, but after receiving it and spending some time playing it, I felt I had to.

Over the years, I have owned both expensive and budget guitars, so I have enough experience to set up and fix guitars properly. My idea with this purchase was to get an instrument that I could adjust or repair myself if needed, use for modding, and keep as a backup guitar.

To my surprise, the guitar arrived with an almost perfect setup, and it was obvious that someone had taken the time to set it up before shipping.

The finish is beautiful, with no blemishes at all.
The neck is also beautiful and very comfortable, which honestly surprised me.
The fretwork is excellent, with no sharp fret ends anywhere.
I did not find a single uneven fret, and there is no fret buzz across the fingerboard.
Intonation is spot on across the neck.
The guitar even came with a fresh set of shiny new strings.

The nut is cut very well, although I am not sure what material it is made of.
The pickups sound good too. I only had to raise the neck pickup slightly to balance the volume better, but overall they sound very nice.
The tuners are a little stiff, but they hold tuning extremely well, especially together with the well-cut nut.

Overall, my conclusion is simple: this is not just a great guitar for the price, it is simply a great guitar.

If the headstock said something else this guitar would be 3x the price, seriously. This guitar is great and leaves very little to be desired.

Pros:
+ The neck looks and feels great. I was concerned about the D shape because I have fairly small hands, but the neck is not that thick and plays great.
+ The alnico pickups sound super clear, a lot better than the ceramics on my Squier Affinity. Neck pickup is smooth and warm, bridge is clear and twangy.
+ The finish is sparkly blue and beautiful. The edge binding looks great.
+ Compensated brass sadles, which I believe earlier versions of this guitar did not have, but it certainly does now.
+ String through body. Don't think it makes that much of a difference tonally but to me it feels right for a telecaster.
+ Vintage style tuners look great and hold tune well, don't see any need to swap them.
+ Strings were good, believe they are Harley Benton's coated 10-46? No need to swap them.
- Nut is plastic, but seems well cut. I will swap to a Graph Tech PQ-5042-00 that I bought, but no rush.
+ Setup was decent out of the box.

Cons:
- Some string buzz, but no dead notes.
- Some fret sprout that got a little better once I got the guitar inside and settled.
- Wish it had a maple fretboard like the TE62CC. The laurel feels fine though, but it needed some oil.
- Why is the pickguard white?! It does not match the cream binding. New pickguard will be purchased.

Overall I am shocked at the value of this guitar. The Squier Sonic is about the same price and does not hold a candle to this. Neither does the Squier Affinity at almost twice the price. The TE-62 is very close in specs to the Squier Classic Vibe, which is is 3x the price, but of course has a different logo on the headstock.

I wanted a telecaster and with just a simple nut upgrade and a fret job I will be perfectly happy. Sounds great, looks great, feels great.
