Sounds great on Toms with very minimal Eq, lovely low mids.
Good size and weight making for lots of mounting options.
Needs a little help on the high end for guitars, brilliant mic, never the less.
Use 'em every show.

The classic MD421 was my favourite for toms, guitar cabs and bass cab. I never owned any, but I used to rent/borrow for my more demanding recording sessions.
I just purchased two of the compact 421s and I couldn't be happier. I never used the filter anyway, the new body is so small and light I can mount it on standard cheap mic clips. Also, the new mount is better than the flimsy original one which used to break.

The sound is there. I got my favourite full bodied, articulate toms with smooth cymbal rejection. It is always importand for me to check the quality of the off axis sources. These mics deliver in all aspects. After my recent test, I'm definitely getting 2-3 more.

A great microphone for toms and the industry standard. These are almost identical to the full size version in terms of sound at a more affordable price and smaller form factor which makes them much easier to mount on toms. Only compromise is loss of inbuilt EQ but this can be done in the box anyway

Die großen 421-2 waren mir immer zu teuer, die gebrauchten sind auch nicht gerade günstig, dann das Theater mit Großtuchel, Kleintuchel - Adapter. Aber jetzt - handliche Größe und Gewicht, gute Mikrohalterung, guter Preis, amtlicher 421er Sound: druckvoll, kompakt, transparente Höhen. Klare Empfehlung.
