Swissonic Audio 1

I was looking for a simple audio interface to control my studio monitors and eventually connect a microphone. I didn't need much more than that. Any added features would be a nice bonus. Of course in the budget range every google search and youtube video pointed me to the focusrite solo. I then checked if there was anything out there that matched the solo for specs but possibly at a lower price point, since I am on a strict budget.

Then the Audio 1 and 2 popped up on Thomann's website. At first I thought it was too good to be true. Same specs as the solo but half the price?! I thought there must be something missing... Well to say I am pleasantly surprised is an understatement.

First, this thing is built like a tank! Solid construction, nice feeling knobs, small enough to fit on my desk and robust enough to throw in my backpack. The sound is perfectly fine. There's no feedback or hiss etc. It does the exact job I want it to do. It's also plug and play! on Windows! No drivers to install or anything.

My guess as to why it's priced so competitively:
1. it's an introductory price to entice new buyers to take a chance (like me)
2. No ads or marketing outside of Thomann's website. (also costs money)
3. No drivers. meaning no development and maintenance of software (could matter to you. I don't mind.)
4. probably some other business related stuff

None of the above points take away from the quality of the device itself.
Overall, I'm happy with the interface as it does what I need it to do. Should anything change I'll update this review.

Conclusion: if you're like me and looking for an audio interface to primarily control the volume of your monitors with solid sound quality, this is the one to get.

For the first time I ordered a usb sound card and was not disappointed.
I usually plug my guitar into a amp and play for fun, but recently I decided to try recording my stuff.
Realizing that I needed a device for amateur recording, the first thing I looked at was a focusrite solo. Then I saw this device in similar ones and a spark slipped between us)
I am connecting the interface to a laptop, so I needed an additional connector to power it if there was not enough power from the laptop.
I like separate volume controls for headphones and monitors, software included, good sound quality for home recording.
Swissonic Audio 1 fully meets my requirements, I'm happy!

Das erste Positive beim Auspacken: Das Gehäuse ist entgegen den Erwartungen massiv und aus Metall, was dem Gerät einen wertigen Eindruck verleiht. Zum Testen habe ich das Gerät nur mit der "USB TO PC" Buchse angesteckt und auf die zusätzliche USB-C Stromversorgung verzichtet.

Direkt nach dem Anstecken war das Gerät unter Windows 10 nutzbar, ohne zusätzliche Treiberinstallation des zum Downloads angebotenen Treiberpaketes. Für mich ist diese Unabhängigkeit von Hersteller-Treibern sehr wichtig, da so das Gerät auch länger betrieben werden kann, unabhängig ob der Hersteller die Treiber aktualisiert.

Die Analog/Digital Wandlung habe ich mit mehreren Quellen getestet, immer mit den vollen 192 kHz / 24 Bit, was ja ein Herausstellungsmerkmal ist gegenüber ähnlichen USB-Interfaces der Preisklasse, z.B. dem Behringer U-Phoria UMC22. Während der gesamten Tests konnte ich keinen Audio-Aussetzer feststellen.

In Windows wird das Gerät als Aufnahmequelle in Stereo erkannt, wobei Kanal 1 links und Kanal 2 rechts jeweils in Mono abgespielt wird. Ebenfalls wird das Gerät als Wiedergabequelle aufgeführt.

Bei dem aktuellen Preis (2.1.23 - 49 €) und mit der kostenlosen AmpliTube 5 Lizens ist das Preis/Leistungsverhältnis meiner Meinung nach unschlagbar. Das Gerät ist wertig, unabhängig von herstellerspeziefischer Software und (zumindest bis jetzt) absolut zuverlässig. Einziges Manko ist die teilweise zu knappe und unverständliche Bedienungsanleitung. Da es sich hier um ein Einsteigergerät handelt, dürften für meinen Geschmack die Funktionen und Bedienelemente genauer erklärt werden.

Ich war in der Erwartung, eine Plastikbox mit zu leichtgängigen Potis und wackeligen Schaltern zu erhalten. Denkste!
Das Audiointerface hat nicht nur Sitzenwerte auf dem Papier, sondern überzeugt auch auf ganzer Linie in der Verarbeitung. Wär ein Interface (ohne MIDI) sucht, bekommt hier ein Spitzenprodukt mit Topwerten zu einem Preis, den man nicht einmal auf dem Gebrauchtmarkt bekommt. Ich habe es zum Üben mit der E-Gitarre gekauft, so das ich nicht ins Studio muss. Hätte das Interface auch noch MIDI, würde ich mein Studiointerface verkaufen und noch ein gutes Geschäft dabei machen. 5 Sterne mit Ausrufezeichen!
